MetroLab Podcast
We are happy to announce the release of our latest project, the MetroLab Podcast!
In our Podcast we want to discuss different perspectives on the role of metropolitan regions in the climate crisis by entwining individual key topics that impact not only our daily life but are majorly contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.
In several episodes we will have discussions with researchers, activists, thinkers, policy makers and practitioners to better understand the role of metropolitan regions in the climate crisis and their paths towards climate neutrality.

OUT NOW: Future Public Spaces
What is required to renew and articulate public spaces?
The need for, and demands of, public spaces are highly specific to the local spatial and social conditions under which people live. Action at neighborhood level is crucial, and must involve interacting and co-creating with residents to discover their needs. At the start of the pandemic, superwien was commissioned to develop innovative designs for urban public spaces in three different cities: Dhaka (Bangladesh), Maputo (Mozambique), and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). The main objective of this applied research was to strengthen the capacity of local governments to undertake participatory urban design processes. This book calls upon architects and urbanists to develop place-based solutions in challenging circumstances.
NEW PUBLICATION: Metropolitan Design as a New Discipline
We are excited to announce the publication of the new MetroLab book!
This publication introduces the new discipline of metropolitan design by sharing innovative and international knowledge of interconnected mobility, balanced growth, resilient landscapes and integrated programming of metropolitan regions and provides co-creative tools to develop future-proof and highly liveable city regions.
Publishing in February 2023 by jovis.

STORY OF A STREET: ZIRKUSGASSE
A WALK WITH WHOOSH AND SUPERWIEN
JUNE 02, 2023 | 16:00 – 19:00
Every street is interesting, if you hear the stories and meet the people. Roland and Eugene, from SuperWien and Whoosh, will show you this on a tour of their Graetzl.
Zirkusgasse is not a well-known street, but it has so much to offer. We will make a sociological, historical, political, artistic and playful walk along a not-so-long and not-so-boring part of Leopoldstadt.
Why is it called Zirkusgasse? Who lives here? Why did we send our kids to schools on the street? What does it mean to live in Jewish Vienna, in hipster Wien, in a district with so many sex shops? Who lives here? Why is the street completely grey-coloured?
Since we are both urbanists, we look at architecture, placemaking, parklets, ecology, and people. How could the street be improved? A better Bezirksvorsteher would be one of Eugene’s first wishes. And Renz was once the coolest place to hang out in our city, so we explore what it meant, and where it went.
Also: Why do we need to urgently change the name of the Second District? How is the latest redevelopment of Praterstern going? Why is Prater Strasse not being updated, despite all the proposals? Why was the first ever pop-up cycle lane here?

2. Platz beim Kooperativen Verfahren in Berlin
Das Projekt “Mitten in Tempelhof” erhält den 2. Platz.
GLARA – Green Living Augmented+virtual ReAlity
Just before the end of 2019 we launched a new project: GLARA – Green Living Augmented+virtual ReAlity is a research and development project that aims at integrating participation processes with new technologies making them more accessible for everyone. The focus is on planning of green infrastructures and a transparent, timely communication of their positive impacts on micro-climate and environment. An easy-to-use mobile application should complement face-to-face elements in participation processes in order to make it easier for people to participate. With the use of virtual and augmented reality, complex plans and maps can be translated to comprehensible pictures.
We are looking forward to working in this project with our partners from tatwort, green4cities and fluxguide.
Many thanks to BMDW who funds this projects through the FFG COIN Program.
