A WALK WITH WHOOSH AND SUPERWIEN JUNE 02, 2023 | 16:00 – 19:00
Every street is interesting, if you hear the stories and meet the people. Roland and Eugene, from SuperWien and Whoosh, will show you this on a tour of their Graetzl.
Zirkusgasse is not a well-known street, but it has so much to offer. We will make a sociological, historical, political, artistic and playful walk along a not-so-long and not-so-boring part of Leopoldstadt. Why is it called Zirkusgasse? Who lives here? Why did we send our kids to schools on the street? What does it mean to live in Jewish Vienna, in hipster Wien, in a district with so many sex shops? Who lives here? Why is the street completely grey-coloured?
Since we are both urbanists, we look at architecture, placemaking, parklets, ecology, and people. How could the street be improved? A better Bezirksvorsteher would be one of Eugene’s first wishes. And Renz was once the coolest place to hang out in our city, so we explore what it meant, and where it went.
Also: Why do we need to urgently change the name of the Second District? How is the latest redevelopment of Praterstern going? Why is Prater Strasse not being updated, despite all the proposals? Why was the first ever pop-up cycle lane here?
Von Stefan Mayr und Roland Krebs wurde 2010 in Wien ihr Büro superwien urbanism gegründet. Dabei beschäftigen sie sich vor allem mit Städtebau und nachhaltiger Architektur. Die Projektbereiche umfassen großmaßstäbliche Aufgabenstellungen, genauso wie kleinmaßstäbliche. Sie reichen von Metropolenplanung und Wohnbau über Erdgeschosszonen-Strategien, hin zu Beteiligungsprozessen und Placemaking. Angesiedelt sind ihre Projekte in Österreich, Südosteuropa, Zentralasien und Lateinamerika.
Das Projekt “Mitten in Tempelhof” erhält den 2. Platz. Parallel sowie in Austausch mit drei weiteren Teams aus dem Bereich Städtebau und Landschaftsplanung hat Superwien Urbanism in Kooperation mit Siri Frech und IPG einen städtebaulich-freiraumplanerischen Entwurf für die „Neue Mitte Tempelhof“ entwickelt. Im Rahmen von vier Werkstätten vor Ort bzw. digital wurden im letzten Jahr die Entwürfe mit den AuftraggeberInnen, den Planungsteams, FachexpertInnen sowie unter Einbeziehung der BürgerInnen und lokalen AkteurInnen diskutiert und präzisiert.
Das Fachkonzept Mittelpunkte des städtischen Lebens – Polyzentrales Wien wurde als vorbildliches Projekt ausgezeichnet.
Der Verkehr ist in Wien der größte Verursacher von klimaschädlichen CO2-Emissionen. Er ist für rund 40 Prozent der CO2-Emissionen verantwortlich, das ist doppelt so viel wie der Gebäudesektor.
Wien hat nicht nur ein Zentrum, sondern in den einzelnen Bezirken viele lebendige größere und kleinere Zentren. Diese sind der Schlüssel für eine klimaverträgliche Stadt der kurzen Wege. Das Fachkonzept Polyzentrales Wien der Wiener Stadtplanung setzt Maßnahmen, die diese Zentren stärken. Einkaufen in fußläufiger Distanz erspart lange Einkaufsfahrten, die oft mit dem Auto gemacht werden.
