Based on the objectives of the Urban Development Plan for Vienna STEP 2025, between 2017 and 2019 a thematic concept was prepared, comprising regulations for the development of existing and new centralities, as well as for large-scale retail.

As part of the cooperative development process, MA 18 – Stadtentwicklung und Stadtplanung commissioned four expert teams to work on different focus issues. In this regard Superwien Urbanism prepared a study on the development of new centralities. The key question was how the development process of a new centre has to be designed and which instruments are required in order to create new, fully-fledged centres that meet the objectives of the STEP 2025. The main findings of this study have been incorporated into the objectives, strategies and recommended actions of the thematic concept.

In addition, Superwien was commissioned to design and edit the infographics and maps and prepare the layout for the concept.
