The “Mitte 15” Stadtentwicklungskonzept is a district development concept that aims to develop the unused railroad site on Felberstrasse in Vienna’s 15th district and the surrounding historic existing urban structures into a liveable, sustainable, climate-adapted and well-connected district that meets the needs of residents and the environment.
The focus is both on the high-quality further development of the existing historic urban fabric and on the development of a future-proof program for the railroad site along Felberstrasse.
The holistic planning includes various aspects: the connection of the districts by expanding the crossings over the railroad line for active forms of mobility, active east-west axes for mobility and recreation, green shopping streets along Äußere Mariahilfer Strasse and Märzstrasse, a dense network of open spaces and traffic-calmed areas, productive groundfloors as high-quality commercial locations and a central public green space along Felberstrasse, which will become the new heart of the project area.

Das Stadtteilentwicklungskonzept „Mitte 15“ sieht vor, das ungenutzte Bahngelände an der Felberstraße im 15. Wiener Gemeindebezirk sowie die umliegende gründerzeitliche Bestandsstadt zu einem lebenswerten, nachhaltigen, klimaangepassten und gut vernetzten Stadtteil zu entwickeln, der den Bedürfnissen der Bewohner und der Umwelt gerecht wird.
Der Fokus liegt sowohl auf der qualitätsvollen Weiterentwicklung der bestehenden Gründerzeitstadt als auch auf der Entwicklung eines zukunftsfähigen Programms für das Westbahnhofareal entlang der Felberstraße.
Die ganzheitliche Planung umfasst verschiedene Aspekte: die Verbindung der Stadtteile durch den Ausbau der Querungen über die Bahntrasse für aktive Mobilitätsformen, aktive Ost-West-Achsen für Mobilität und Aufenthalt, grüne Einkaufsstraßen entlang der Äußeren Mariahilfer Straße und der Märzstraße, ein engmaschiges Freiraumnetz in verkehrsberuhigten Quartieren, produktive Sockel als hochwertige Gewerbestandorte sowie einen zentralen öffentlichen Grünraum entlang der Felberstraße, der zum neuen Herz des Projektgebietes wird.
